Been wondering lately just how racey of a car you'd need to take on the best superbikes available these days (HP4, etc.)

Straight-line speed I think the superbikes will always take it unless you are putting out some serious power, but I'm curious what sort of track day special you'd need to take on an HP4 at a track. I imagine you'd need to get fairly deep into the race car pool to beat it, like a Formula 3 car that has loads of downforce to stick in the corners. Even then, I'm not so sure.

Superbikes are absolutely crazy.

I bet a BAC Mono would stand a good chance without being an actual racing car

I could be wrong but I think bikes give up a lot to cars in the corners? So p1 mclaren lol

Depends on the track, but an HP4 does 1:33s at Laguna Seca which is ZR1 or Viper ACR times. Something like a Formula 3 would stomp them, and even stuff like like the 918 or P1 would pull away pretty easy.

still trying to find some official lap times from various racing series, I keep getting Gran Turismo or other simulator results.

Near as I can tell a Star Mazda, which is analogous to GP3 gets around the 1:18-1:20 mark.

It really depends on the track. If its something few a couple of decent straights, you are going to have to dig DEEP to find something to take them on.

Bikes give up a LOT in slow-to-medium speed corners. So if its a slower track, something like a GT-R would probably give the bike a good run for its money

At COTA, the lap record on a bike is 2:02.773 and change. That's Marc Marquez on a Honda MotoGP bike, so I'd say that's about the lower limit on lap time.

A Ferrari 458 Italia (LMGTE class) in the WEC race in 2013 put down a 2:03.520 and a Corvette DP car (pre TUSC merger) put down a 2:00.026.

So, the fastest prototype bike in the world, ridden by a 2x world champion is slightly slower than a Daytona prototype and slightly faster than a professionally driven race prepped Ferrari 458.

Wow, I'm a little surprised that the MotoGP bike isn't a bit quicker, actually.

Sure, the Corvette Daytona car is a pretty serious machine, but I would have thought the MotoGP could best it.

The MotoGP bike will eat the cars alive on the straights, but cars making that much downforce have a huge advantage in the corners.

The effect is exaggerated at COTA, which has a lot of high speed turns.

I was watching a couple MotoGP highlights from last year, and it did shock me at how much slower the bikes looked in the corners vs. the F1 race I watched earlier this week. I know it's apples to apples, but it seemed glacial.

Here's a video from awhile back with a MotoGP bike racing a V8 Supercar and an F1 car.

The gap between the bike and F1 car would probably be closer now, since the bikes have gotten faster and F1 cars are slower.

That's such a bullshit comparison, though.

I'm pretty sure that's just a CBR1000 on slicks instead of a full MotoGP bike.

I never looked at it that closely, but yeah, I think the bike has headlights.

I was wondering why the bike was so much slower off the line than the F1 car. A MotoGP bike should have a better power to weight ratio than even an F1 car of that era.
